The Yankees avoided their first home series sweep against the Mets, with some late inning hitting, a rather rare occurance this year.

A solid outing from Randy Johnson, did not show up on the scoreboard, with some bad play in the field, the Yankees fell behind 1-4 in top of the 7th inning. They pulled two runs back in the bottom of the 7th, then left the bases loaded in the 8th. After Rivera pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning, they Yankees got another chance just one run behind.

Pinch hitter Tino Martinez walked, Alex Rodriguez doubled to left, and Matsui was intenionally walked. Jason Giambi came to plate with a chance to end the game, something he had done 11 days earlier against Pittsburgh, this hit didn't go quite as a far as the upper a deck, but a 2 run single to center was enough to win the game, 5-4.

Sean Henn once again proved he is not ready for the majors, and the Yankees return to the 500 level, just as the Red Sox pull away with a lead in the AL East.

Henn gave up 7 hits and 6 runs in his 4.1 inning outing, but got little in the way of run support. Despite getting 11 hits the Yankees scored just 3 runs (all by Robinson Cano), against the Mets 10.

Robinson Cano added to his home run tally in the 9th innings. Cano has provide himself in the big league, which could make him the target for other teams as the Yankees will inevitably look to trade to strengthen their squad.

An unbelievable rollercoaster ride of a game.

Things started baddly for the Yankees, after two strong outing, Randy Johnson had a disaster of an outing. He lasted just 3 innings, giving up 8 hits, and 7 runs, including 3 home runs. Unlike the last game though the Yankees picked away, getting a run here, and run there, but they faced a 2-10 deficit in the 5th inning.

Then thing started heating up for the Yankees, in the bottom of the 5th inning a 3 run Gary Sheffield home run and a double for Bernie Williams helped reduce the deficit to 6-10, and solo shot by Derek Jeter in the 6th helped reduce the deficit further.

After Tampa scored in the top of the 7th, the Yankees were 4 runs down going into the bottom of the 8th inning. With awesome offensive display, the Yankees scored 13 runs, including 4 home runs (Posada, Sheffield, Rodriguez, and Matsui), and batted for over 35 minutes. The outburst matched a 13 run 2nd inning the Yankees had against Tampa Bay in April. The final score as 20-11, the sides got a combined 41 hits.

The Yankees trailed 4-6 after 6 innings, good hitting in the 7th and 8th innings help secure a 9-6 victory.

Matsui continued hitting well since being moved to the DH spot, after injuring his ankle in Saint Louis, his home run in the 7th inning gave the Yankees the lead.

Kevin Brown started sharply, but began to struggle, as back spasm caused him problems forcing him to leave the game in the 5th inning. It started to look the same old thing from the Yankees, after a good offensive display yesterday, scored just 1 run thru 6 innings in this game, but they refused to give in.

The Yanks clawed their way back for 1-4 behind, they scored runs in the 7th, 8th, 9th, and 10th innings to get the win 7-5, their first win of season when they trailed after the 8th inning, Mariano Rivera earned the win.

Feast turned into famine, and with some horrible defensive play in the field, the Yankees folded against the St. Louis Cardinals, with arguably their worst performance of the season.

Chien-Ming Wang got the loss with a final score of 1-8, but this defeat lay at the hands of the some of the worst play in the field I've ever seen by a Yankee team. Early error by Giambi (the official scorers scored this a Rodriguez error, but Giambi was to blame in my book), Cano and Wang gave the Cards and early lead, which the famine offsense would not get back.

As has been commen this year for the Yankees, its a case of famine, or in this case feast. 12 runs, with 4 homers was enough to beat the Brewers 3 runs with 1 homer.

Joe Torre made a number changes to lineup and in preperation to try to get the Yankees out of the slump and it worked. Ruben Sierra played left field, Bernine Williams back to center, and Ray Sanchez started at 2nd base. The team skipped batting practice, to try and keep their best swings for the game.

Alex Rodriguez became the youngest member of the 400 home run club, hitting his 399th (1st inning) and 400th (8th inning) home runs in the game. Derek Jeter added a home run in the 6th innings, and Robinson Cano is his first pinch hit appearance went deep to right in the 7th inning.

The Yankees slipped back under 500 with a loss to Milwaukee in a tight game. Randy Johnson continues to struggle, although throwing hard, his control was lacking and he gave up another 2 home runs.

After going 0-3 down the Yankees managed to work it back to 3-3, but a home run in the bottom of the 6th inning by Junior Spivey and Milwaukee took the lead. Jeter came close to tieing the game in the 9th inning, but nothing seems to be working for the Yankees as Geoff Jenkins ran down his drive to right field.

No home runs again for the Yankees, not only are they struggling to play little ball, bu the long ball is also alluding them.

After the uplifting game yesterday, the Yankees started well, getting an early lead thanks to a Robinson Cano home run in the 1st inning, and going into the 6th inning they lead the game 2-0, but that's when things fell apart.

Kevin Brown lost control of his pitches and allowed 5 runs, and the relief pitching didn't help much either, although Tanyon Sturtuze pitched well, Quantril and Groom combined to give up 4 runs in the 8th.

This was the 20th game this season that the Yankees have failed to score more than 3 runs, and the 20th of those games they have lost.

They Yankees once had an air on invincibility, they could come back from a deficiet in the late inninngs, but they seem to have lost that ability.

They Yankees could have won the game, going up early 3-0 on the back of a Gary Sheffield home run, and Bernie William RBI single, but after falling behind in the 5th inning to a 3 run home run by Lew Ford, they seemed to press to hard, trying to hit each and every pitch out of the ball park.

The Bronx Bomber came up blank, and lost the game 3-6, the team seems to have forgotten how to play little ball, making mistakes in the field, on the bases, and failing to get important hits with runners on board, hits of any kind would do the job, not just home runs!

The sweep is complete, not the one everyone was expecting when the Yankees visit the team with the worst record in baseball, loosing the final game 2-5.

Thing started off well Matsui hit a sacrifice fly in the first inning and the Yankees took a 1-0 lead. The Royals rallied and were leading the game by the 4th inning. The rallied in the 5th inning, scoring on a Derek Jeter single, but an earlier base running mistake by Bernie Williams cost the Yankees a big inning, and they continued to trail the Royals 2-3. Pavano lost it in the 6th inning giving up back-to-back home runs one to left field, the other to right.

The Yankees could have taken the lead in the 9th inning, but a bases loaded ground out by Ruben Sierra ended the game.

Another disappointing game, not that the Yankees played particularly badly, they were just out played by Boston in all areas.

Both pitchers had a shakey start, David Wells recovered, Mike Mussina did not, being relieved by Chien-Ming Wang after 3 innings of work, have given up 5 runs. Wang pitched 4 2/3rd innings giving up just 2 runs.

Two home runs in the game for New York. Derek Jeter, and Gary Sheffield both hit solo homers in the bottom of the first inning, that had tied the game. But that was all the scoring the Yankees to muster as the Red Sox won the game 2-7.

Wow that was painful to watch!

The World Champion broke out of their slump in a HUGE way. Getting 27 hits (just one short of their record), and 17 runs. Only a single by Bernie Williams scoring Tony Womack in the 7th inning prevented a shutout.

Pavano lasted just 3 2/3rd innings and the relief pitching didn'f fair too well either, Stanton, Quantril and Groom combining to give up 16 hits and 12 runs.

Torre pretty much abandoned the game in the 5th inning, pulling Sheffield, Matsui, Jeter, and Rodriguez out of the game.

What a difference three weeks makes, after start 11-19, the Yankees are now 27-21, in 2nd place on the AL East, just 3.5 games behind Baltimore.

Any impressive defensive, and offensive display behind a still shakey Randy Johnson got the Yankees the win. Tony Womack and Robinson Cano made good definsive plays in the top of the 6th inning to hold the Red Sox to just one run, both players earning put outs at home plate.

In the bottom of the 6th inning it was the turn of the offense, first Robinson Cano got his 2nd career homer to deep right, to tie the game, and Gary Sheffield hit the go ahead runs with a homer to the upper deck in left-field.

Mariano Rivera got his 12th save of the season, after blowing his first 2 save chances against the Red Sox. The final score was 6-3.

Brown struggled in this start, but improved to 3-4, winning his last three starts. The bullpen did well, giving up just one run, over 4 innings, despite a defensive error in the 8th inning by Tony Womack. Marino Rivera got the save, with the final score of 5-2.

Three wins in a row for the first time this season! With little to be excited about so far this season, 4 good starting pitching performances, may have lead to a turnaround for the Yankees.

Randy Johnson went 8 innings, and Mariano Rivera pitched a 1-2-3 9th inning, the Yankees hit the long ball, and played little ball well too. The only thing missing from the equation is the setup man leading into Rivera. Gordon had filled that role last year, but with bad performances from Gordon, Torre seems little unsure who will fill that role this year. The final score was 4-3.

Another shakey start from Kevin Brown, 2nd inning bases loaded no outs, this time however, Brown managed to get out of the inning without giving up any runs. He ended up going 7 innings without giving up any runs, and then Yankees closed the series with a 6-0 victory.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 11th home run in the 4th inning, and Tino Martinez and Jorge Posada added one each in the 8th inning.

Randy Johnson missed the game, and was replaced by Sean Henn, called up from Double A Trenton. Henn didn't get off to a great start for his major league career lasting just 2.1 innings, giving up 6 runs, 5 earned. The bullpen disappointed once again, giving up an additional 5 earned runs. The final score was 8-11.

Two solo home run in the game, Alex Rodriguez hit his 10th home run in the 2nd inning, making him the current league leader. Tino Martinez hit his in the 8th inning, going deep in consecutive games.

Roster Moves

Some interesting roster moves for the Yankees today. Matsui is moving from left, to center field, Bernie Williams will move to the bench, Tony Womack moves from 2nd base to left, and Robinson Cano has been drafted from the minor leagues to play 2nd base.

I don't expect these will moves will affect the teams home run hitting too much. Bernie was not expected to hit too many home runs this year, although he may now be splitting DH duties with Jason Giambi, which may reduce his production.

Another disappointing game for Yankee fans.

Starter Carl Pavano struggled, but got some run support and left the game leading 6-3 with the bases loaded, in the 6th inning. The bullpen was unable to hold Toronto, and by the end of the inning Toronto was leading. The final result was 6-8 in favor of Toronto.

Gary Sheffield hit his third home run of the season, a solo shot off former Yankee Ted Lilly, in the 4th inning.

New York may have had a rookie on the mound today, but in they got what they needed a good pitching, run support, and a win.

Depsite not getting the win, Chien-Ming Wang will be very happy with his performance. Tom Gordon struggled in the 8th inning, giving up a game tying home run to Corey Koskie, robbing Wang of his win. Rivera pitched a perfect 9th inning and Tony Womack hit the game winning single in the bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded. The final result was 4-3.

Alex Rodriguez hit his 9th home run of the year, hitting an opposite field blast in the 4th inning, making him baseballs leading home run hitter.

Homer Less Streak

For the first time this season, the Yankees are homer-less in three straight games, although they won the first game of those three, they have lost the subsequent games.

The Yankees are 4 games back (from Baltimore suprisingly, atop the AL East) with the worst record in the AL East, whilst it's way to early to be worried about the standings, the way the Yankees have performed (espically the starting pitching) is of great concern.

Brown and Wright gave up early leads in their games, making it difficult for the Yankees to compete. Randy Johnson starts today, and a solid outing from the Yankee ace is expected, and should bring with it some run support.

The Yankees must win to avoid getting swept for the second weekend in a row.

Its very unlikely that we'll get anywere near 366 on the season, William, Martinez, and Sierra are a long way from their best years, and Giambi and Rodrigez are struggling with life in the Bronx, but look for Matsui and a healthy Sheffield to post good numbers.

I'm looking for a number in the 230-240 range, just shy of their number of 242 from the 2004 season which tied them for best in Baseball with the Chicago White Sox.
